Acai has a slight berry-ish taste, so in my opinion is best consumed in a berry-based acai bowl or smoothie. There are so many variations on the standard "acai bowl recipe" floating around, with some using frozen packets of acai and others using powders, but I've decided to share my own take on it. I prefer using acai powder as it's pretty hard to find frozen packets that don't have added sugars and preservatives, and use frozen bananas and berries instead to make it thick (and naturally sweet!) I usually have an acai bowl about once a week for breakfast, a snack or even dessert!
ACAI BOWL
(Serves 1)
Ingredients
- 2 frozen bananas
- 2 scoops acai powder
- 1/2 cup coconut water
- 1/2 cup frozen raspberries or frozen blueberries
- 1 tbsp chia seeds soaked in 4 tbsp water overnight (optional)
Method
- Blend all the ingredients in a high powered blender until it reaches a soft serve consistency
- Top with whatever you feel like (my favourites are banana, homemade granola, fresh berries, coconut and mango!)
